The French carbon fiber pioneer Epsilon Composite has reached a key milestone in its ambitious development plan in India, with the creation of its new subsidiary HindEpsilon Composite, officially incorporated in October 2025, and headquartered in Chennai.

Through its Epsilon Cable division, the company is known worldwide for its HVCRC® composite core conductors, also known as composite HTLS conductors, used to increase the capacity, efficiency and resilience of overhead power lines.

Epsilon’s expansion in India comes as the country accelerates its electrification and grid modernization programs. The next step will be the opening of a local production facility for composite cores and other high-performance composite parts, aligning with the “Make in India” initiative.

On this occasion, HindEpsilon’s management team was joined by Romain Coullette, Epsilon Composite’s Sales Director, for a celebration in Chennai, followed by meetings with key stakeholders of the Indian power transmission sector, including the Ministry of Power, Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Power Grid Corporation of India, and several utilities and EPCs.

While Epsilon Cable operates on all continents, India is clearly identified as one of Epsilon Cable’s top strategic markets for the future.

After being awarded, together with its local stranding partners, a series of reconductoring projects in several Indian states such as Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Assam, Epsilon Cable is moving on with its plan to establish a local factory in India.

“India is one of the most dynamic countries in the world, facing an immense electrification challenge”, said Alexandre Lull, Managing Director of Epsilon Composite.

Advanced conductors such as HVCRC are recognized as key enablers of this modernization, but the lack of open competition in the field of composite core conductors has hindered the deployment of this technology in the past, so authorities and utilities are actively seeking reliable and competitive suppliers.

Epsilon Cable is proud to answer this call with a proven, cost-efficient and sustainable solution, soon to be produced locally in India, bringing additional production capacity and even faster delivery to our local partners. Our mission is fully aligned with India’s national grid strengthening plan and in support of India’s 500 GW renewable target for 2030.”

Ganeshkumar Thangavelu, Head of HindEpsilon Composite, added: “I joined Epsilon Cable as its innovative HVCRC range of solutions is ideally positioned to meet the demand of our country’s transmission and distribution sector with world-class composite technologies. This subsidiary is the first step in our “walk the talk” commitment towards our Government’s Make in India Initiative. We are expanding our local resources and strengthening our presence in the country, with a clear roadmap to establish local production”

About Epsilon Composite and Epsilon Cable

Epsilon Composite designs and manufactures carbon fiber composites for industrial, civil engineering, aerospace and energy markets since 1987.

It is a pioneer and world leader in high-performance composite materials thanks to the pultrusion process. This highly efficient technology combined with the extraordinary properties of carbon fibers is the ideal solution to manufacture the cores of advanced conductors, also known as High Capacity / High Temperature Low Sag (“HTLS”) conductors.

The mid-size industrial company is family owned. Since 2023, Sumitomo Corporation (Japan) has joined the company’s capital as a minority shareholder, to support the ambitious growth of its Epsilon Cable division.

Its headquarters and main facilities are located in Gaillan Médoc, France, with subsidiaries in Japan, India and Mexico to serve clients worldwide.

Epsilon Cable is the company’s division specialized in advanced conductors, designed to improve line ampacity, reduce sag and minimize electrical losses.

Thanks to their strong lightweight composite core made of aerospace-grade carbon fiber, glass fiber and epoxy resin, Epsilon Advanced Conductors such as HVCRC® allow to easily and cost-effectively double the ampacity of High Voltage overhead lines, to mitigate sag issues and to reduce electrical losses, therefore cutting down on CO₂ emissions and ensuring a quick return on investment for utilities.

With a proven track record of several thousand kilometers of conductors installed and energized worldwide in the past 20 years, Epsilon Cable is at the forefront of the energy transition and serves the most demanding utilities to help them strengthen and modernize their power grids.
