Panjab, India | Nov 11, 2025. It is now just over 2 months since the devastating floods that engulfed Panjab. Following a detailed field assessment this week, our team on the ground has documented a myriad set of urgent needs across 11 flood-affected villages covering 779 households or 3,895 individuals. The findings mark a critical moment for donor intervention to restore livelihoods, rebuild homes, and safeguard the dignity of vulnerable communities.

These villages were adopted by UNITED SIKHS in response to grassroot requests from concerned citizens, where long-term recovery and resilience efforts are underway.

Below is a summary of key findings from the assessment conducted by our field volunteers and coordinators:

Agricultural Recovery & Livelihoods

* 368 families report agricultural losses

* 31,317 seed units are needed to restart farming across an expanse of 1,948 acres

* 418 families require support in the form of farming seeds

* 345 households need farming tools to resume operations

* 145 dead livestock need replacing, further destabilizing rural livelihoods

Agricultural losses have threatened food security and income across flood-affected

villages. Immediate support is needed to revive farming activity and stabilize rural livelihoods.

Infrastructure & Shelter Needs

* 476 households report damaged houses

* 321 households urgently require repairs to their homes

Many families remain exposed to unsafe conditions, with limited access to basic shelter and sanitation. Rebuilding efforts must prioritize durable, climate-resilient housing and community infrastructure.

Protection & Education of Children

* 61 children currently out of school

* 45 children forced into labor due to economic hardship

* 960 school-going children at risk of dropout without immediate intervention

* Immediate support needed to restore safe and nurturing learning environments

Assessments reveal education and child protection as critical priorities. Displacement and economic hardship have disrupted learning and forced children into labor, underscoring the need for urgent intervention.

Psychosocial Support for Elders & Children

* 214 elderly dependents face psychological stress

* Over 1,200 children experienced trauma and emotional disruption

* Community-based mental health care are urgently needed

* Dignity-centered interventions are essential for emotional healing and resilience

The emotional toll on elders and children has been profound. These vulnerable groups face not only the physical aftermath of disaster but also the invisible wounds of uncertainty, grief, and disruption.

Community Coordination & Volunteer Mobilization

Across the 11 affected villages, 219 local contacts have stepped forward to coordinate relief, demonstrating remarkable grassroots leadership and community trust.

Since the onset of the floods, UNITED SIKHS has led a sustained humanitarian response across Panjab delivering food, clean water, clothing, medicines, and fodder for livestock. Mobile clinics were deployed  to provide urgent medical care to displaced families and elders. Fuel provisions were also distributed to support transport, and agricultural recovery.
